 Welcome to

PrestAero - Our Subject Areas and Resources

'Knowledge-Based' PrestAero is the home to our resources catalogued in a way that makes sense to aeronautical minded folk.

The Prestwick Branch will probably use this area when organising school visits.

It is not aimed specifically at teaching staff, but feel free to browse.

Physics of Flight

A series of lessons describing the physics of how the atmosphere supports aircraft in flight, how design impacts upon performance and how aircraft are controlled.  Each lesson includes simple demonstrations with comprehensive instructions.

  • Early: SCN 0-04a, 0-06a, 0-20a; TCH 0-09a
  • First: SCN 1-07a, 1-20a; TCH 1-09a
  • Second: SCN 2-04a, 2-04b, 2-08a, 2-20a, 2-20b
  • Third: SCN 3-07a, 3-08a, 3-20a
  • Fourth: SCN 4-08b

Power for Flight

A series of lessons focused on the need to propel an aircraft forward (thrust) in order to achieve flight.  Technologies from the use of gravity to the use of rocket motors are discussed.  Much of the material describes thrust derived from the burning of fossil fuels in internal combustion engines and provides a useful basis for the identifying changes to deliver environmental improvement.
